Bodmin Town 3
TAVISTOCK recorded their first win of the season on Friday with a first class performance against last year's runners up in the league.
Two goals in time added on at the end of the game, gave a score line that flattered Bodmin Town as they were well beaten by the Lambs. It was not until the home team were leading by 4-1 that Bodmin showed any of their true potential, having been dominated by the quality football produced by the home team.
The game started a fast pace and in the 10th minute a sweeping move involving Kinsman, and Sargent found Sullivan, but his shot was scrambled away for a corner. Jamie Ahearn headed over from the resultant corner kick. Two minutes later Michael Landricombe split the visiting defence to find, his brother Levi just outside the angle of the penalty area, his fierce drive went inches wide of the far post with Kevin Miller beaten.
The Lambs opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Levi Landricombe found John Wyatt racing into the box to rifle home an unstoppable shot past Miller. The visitor's goalkeeper was kept busy having to make smart saves from Landricombe and Wyatt, before they equalised against the run of play in the 27th minute, when Ben Smallridge set up Bradley Swiggs to fire home from ten yards.
The home team continued to have the majority of possession, through good accurate passing and movement off the ball.
They should have restored their advantage before the interval but for some smart work by Miller, thwarting Sargent and Wyatt. Dean Smith was called upon to make a really smart save from Adam Carter on the stroke of half time.
Two minutes into the second period the Lambs restored their lead, when John James' bullet like header from a Martyn Sullivan corner kick, bulged the back of the net.
Carter then had a shot deflected for a corner. But it was the home team that were producing the flowing moves and it was no surprise when they increased their lead to 3-1 in the 60th minute. A move that involve ten passes found John Wyatt on the right flank, his fierce penetrating cross between the goalkeeper and the back four, saw Huw Morgan racing towards his own goal trying to clear the danger, crash the ball into his own net from eight yards out.
The visitors were reeling and the game looked over in the 77th minute when Andy Sargent nipped in front of Miller to convert a powerful header from Landricombe to make it 4-1.
Five minutes later substitute Dan Pethick had the ball in the net, only to be given off side.
In the dying minutes that Bodmin had a period of sustained pressure on the home defence.
In the first minute of added time Sam Mathews put in Luke Rundle to score, and it was Mathews who scored the final goal in the 96th minute and virtually the last kick of the game.
This was a tremendous performance from the Lambs, the quality of the football was of a very high standard, and the team effort and commitment was first class.
The ground staff are to be congratulated on the condition of the Langsford Park pitch, after all the rain overnight and during the day of the game the playing surface was in perfect condition.
