TAVISTOCK firefighters called to a house in Mohun?s Park last week found the property filled with gas.
The call-out came at ten minutes past noon on August 27. Neighbours of the elderly lady resident called the emergency services after they heard the smoke alarm at the house.
Tavistock fire chief Tim Smith said that when they arrived they found cooking had been burnt, but a gas ring had been left on, filling the house with gas.
The property had to be evacuated.
Tavistock fire crew was also called to a kitchen fire at Boughthayes on the same day, where officers had to kick in the door to gain access as the owners of the property had left food cooking and gone shopping.
The property sustained smoke damage.
