A BABY girl who became locked in car at Whiddon Down Service Station had to be released in a delicate operation on Monday. A firecrew from Chagford joined staff from Highfield Garage from Spreyton to help in freeing the girl and reuniting her with her anxious mother. Station sub-officer Kevin Coombe said: ?Mum had jumped out and accidentally left the keys inside the vehicle. She was on her way from Cornwall up to visit her sister in Swindon when she stopped at Whiddon Down. ?The child was in no distress. We wanted to try to avoid having to break the glass, so we used a bit of wire to unlock the door.? Kevin said the mother was extremely relieved when the girl, who was around two years old, was released from the car. The incident occurred at 9.53am on Monday l Continued on page 3
