THE British Red Cross is looking for volunteers from West Devon to join its new Plymouth-based Fire Victim Support unit.

The service provides immediate practical assistance to the victims of fire, ranging from food, drink and clothing to arranging temporary accommodation.

The new service for Devon will be based at Crownhill, and will operate from 6pm to 7am each night and over 24 hours at weekends.

Volunteers will receive training, including health and safety and map reading, and out of pocket expenses will be paid.

Anyone living within 30 minutes of Plymouth, who likes working with people, and has time to spare at evenings and weekends, is invited to call Devon Red Cross on 01392 273932 or Dorothy Muir on 07739 479380.
