Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 0
Essanians 2
THIS tough hockey match opened with both teams playing strongly in order to gain possession.
Lisa Butler and Emma White worked hard on the right and passed some good balls into the D. Fiona Dunn and Susannah Boulle were solid through midfield and defence and able to pass the ball through into space for Jo Gaspar and Laura Armstrong. Soozi Baggs in goal made some terrific saves as did Armstrong who ran behind her to save a ball from trickling over the goal-line.
Essanians had a break and were awarded a short corner. They took a direct strike which slipped past Baggs.
The second half saw a more confident and dominant Tavistock. Steph Mills fed good balls to Gaspar and White and all the forwards were striving hard for the goal.
Sandra Collar intercepted some timely balls through the middle. Essanians were working hard to give the ball to a key player, but she was no match for Dunn who took it from her every time and drove it up the pitch.
Tavistock?s Boulle and Armstrong had some good linking moves yet the ball could not find its way past the keeper.
With only ten seconds left a dubious short corner was awarded to the opposition who brought down all their players. Tavistock defended the ball well, but it was pushed back onto an opposition?s stick who lifted it past Baggs.
Player of the match: Fiona Dunn.
This week Tavistock are at home at 12.30pm at Bickleigh Barracks against Teignmouth in the Devon Plate competition.
