TAVISTOCK Swimming Club members Caroline Ball, Nick Jarman, Christopher Ralph and Joshua Bancroft recently took part in the BT Swimathon in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief, the Prostate Cancer Charity and Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Caroline, Christopher and Nick all swam the full 5,000 metres — 200 lengths.
Some parents also took to the water with the attitude, 'If you can't beat them, join them!' Two teams entered: Plodding Parents Team One — Steve Taylor and Jackie Ralph — and Plodding Parents Team Two — Debbie Crocker, Lorraine Kelly, Liz Webb, Paul Mallin and Helen Langton.
Although swimming at different times, Caroline and Chistopher swam the distance with a time difference of only 15 hundredths of a second. Steve and Jackie swam 2,500 metres with only five hundredths of a second difference.
A total of at least £722 was raised.
Lennox Lewis, the heavyweight boxing champion and supporter of The Prostate Cancer Charity, sent a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the Swimathon.
Meadowlands in Tavistock and Okehampton swimming pool joined 503 other pools around the country in the event, 37,710 people taking the plunge nationwide, swimming 324,000 miles in total.
