Truro ladies 5
Oke Columbines 3
OKEHAMPTON travelled to Truro with some confidence but found it difficult to settle. Truro played hard and their vociferous objections to the umpires' decisions and the efforts by Okehampton players to hold their ground were unsettling.
Truro's first goal demonstrated their confident and powerful play with a shot from the edge of the circle. Okehampton came back with determination and one of the many excellent hits from Oke player of the match Sandy Douglas blasted down the field to find Jo Moppett. Jo whizzed past several defenders to equalise.
The play continued to focus on Okehampton's left side. Intense work from Sandy, Jane Jones, Amanda Sims and Alex Collins with some courageous saves from Sophie Whiteley did not stop Truro scoring again; this time with a shot into the top of the corner, way over everyone's heads.
Carol Taylor and Joey Drake distributed well from mid-field. Jo Moppett again grasped the opportunity and did a stunning shot which ran virtually parallel with the back line which took the score to two all.
Okehampton still struggled to play to their strengths. Every now and then there would be a flash of their team style with small neat passes that left Truro standing. Unfortunately none quite made it over the crucial goal line; several were tantalising close.
In the second half Truro really began to dominate. Increasingly Okehampton were on the back foot and blasts at goal from the forceful Truro attack more common.
The score crept up to 5-2 but Okehampton still kept fighting to score. With a minute to go Joey Drake got the ball to Jo Moppett. Jo left all behind her as she weaved at breakneck speed straight for the Truro goal and Okehampton were elated as she took the score to 5-3 just before the final whistle.
