A TAVISTOCK couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at the Red and Black Club last Saturday. Alan Turner met Barbara Laird at their workplace in Clapham, South London, in 1956, when they were 17 and 15 respectively. They married two years later, while Alan was a National Service soldier. After having three sons, David, Gordon and Howard, they moved to a farm at Holsworthy in 1971, after which their fourth son Daniel was born. In 1988 Alan and Barbara moved to Tavistock and went into business in the town, where they continue to run a cleaning contract business, Square One Cleaning, to this day.
