A FUNDRAISER to bring Christmas cheer to poorly children at Derriford Hospital Children‘s Ward over the festive period has collected almost £800!

The Tavistock community came together for a fundraiser last week, which raised £357.93. This was followed by a generous donation of £426 by the Lions Club of Tavistock — bringing the total amount to £783.93 for the children’s ward at the hospital.

Tavistock resident Bex Hurle, mum of cancer warrior Ivy, 3, who is currently in Derriford Hospital for treatment, recently appealed for help to raise funds for the ward after she learned that the department had no money in its budget to bring festive fun to those youngsters having to stay at hospital over Christmas.

A working party including Bex, friends and Lions club members were due to visit the ward — as the Times went to press — to decorate the area with trees, lights and baubles, which will certainly brighten it up for all the children who will unfortunately be in there over Christmas.
