I WOULD just like to add my thanks to that of many others to the members of small communities around here who work so hard to make this area so special.

A recent example of this is the festival at Hatherleigh. As many of your readers will know this has been in place for some years now.

Started by a mere handful of people this has slowly grown into a festival that should make the town of Hatherleigh proud of itself.

For any of your readers who have not been I would strongly advise them not to miss next year. The standard of entertainment is of the highest quality.

The range is extraordinary.

There are silver bands, jazz, classical concerts, Cuban music to dance to on Saturday night. There were lectures, discussions, exhibitions.

There were workshops on everything from digital videoing skills to samba dance.

For the children, quite wonderful puppetry that had the adults entertained every bit as much as the children and of course many, many things for children to participate in.

From Thursday evening right through till Sunday evening there was plenty for all the family.

It was wonderful to find such a positive feel in a small town , so recently devastated by foot and mouth.

I hope that even more will come next year and celebrate.

I hope they will do so even more when festivals and shows such as this one, the South Zeal Jubilee Festival and Folk Festival are well reported both before and after the events by all our local press.
