IT was one of those days! No prizes for guessing the snow was to blame. Having negotiated the white covered M5 from Birmingham, where I was at the BBC sports personality awards, to Bath, things were going to plan.

The next challenge was to dig my friends' car out of the snow-covered car park, which thanks to the aid of the kind road maintenance men, we managed. However I got a little carried away; not used to my new flat and its Yale lock I excitedly ran out to help, without my keys! The helpful workmen had several suggestions but not to any avail. With my spare house keys in my car, my car keys in my flat and my spare car keys at home in Devon it didn't look good. A few cold hours and an extortionate fee later I was back in business.

Then it was time to test my driving skills. I've discovered it's easier said than done to put your foot on the throttle not the brake when sliding downhill out of control. I ended up using the derriere of a parked BMW to stop, leaving it and my new Team Gregory car a little worse for wear. Once over the shock — and having plucked up the courage to confess my lack of skill to my father – I hit the road again. Yes, I eventually made it home to Devon, where I'm pleased to say I'll be staying for Christmas.

However, it was all worth it for an amazing night at the BBC awards. Thanks to Michael Spiers jewellers I was Cinderella for the night, decorated in luxuriant diamonds. To top it off I was sat on the front row next to several sporting legends, I think the floor planner must have had one too many when arranging the seating!

Oh and one final thanks to the snow, my dress for the awards arrived only one day late!
