Heather Fell, Olympic modern pentathlete silver medalist, writes about her life 'on and off' the track.

MY travels are at an end, I'm just back from Delhi. I'm feeling a little guilty after a relaxed flight with a complimentary upgrade while the successful England swimming team with their huge medal haul were at the back in economy. I then discovered that they are looking forward to a huge training break of two weeks, I've just had five! However I'm home with a bump — straight into the hard slog of winter training, but looking forward to burning off some of that rich Indian food.

India has been portrayed rather negatively with regards to the Commonwealth Games. Maybe they did have problems with the construction and deadlines, yes the stadiums have not been full, but they have made up for this with their enthusiasm and pride. However empty the stadium may look there is still a deafening roar any time an Indian athlete competes, let alone steps onto the podium. Alongside this is the attraction of an ancient city with so many historic sites, a vast range of rich delicious foods, buzzing markets and colourful streets, there is not a dull moment in Delhi.

As the week has gone on the crowd have been growing, and how the atmosphere has grown with it. One sport that might not have expected such an enthusiastic audience was the shooting. After a 50 minute taxi ride out of the city to the south I was dropped off 3k from the venue, (closest point for public transport). I began walking in the midday heat thinking it can't be that far — it was - luckily I found a lift. It was a relief to eventually discover the entry to the shooting venue, but you can imagine my disbelief when I was told the tickets were sold out. Thankfully my invaluable accreditation solved the problem.

Once inside I caught up with our local bronze medallist Gorgs Geikie, who explained that shooting is actually a very popular and successful sport for India. I thought they really follow their sport closely as when chatting to Gorgs she was stopped for several photos, it wasn't until they insisted I was included that I began to wonder!
