Tavistock Girls 1st XV 0 Crediton & Paignton 1st XV 17 THIS was an unusual under 15 match and Tavistock came up against an experienced team made up of the top girls from Crediton and Paignton. Their experience showed right from the start and Tavistock conceded an early try ? caught unawares by a fast moving pack. But Crediton & Paignton failed to convert and Tavistock spent the rest of the half in the opposition half with some suberb rucking and some fine individual runs. With just five points against them at the start of the second half Tavistock chased the game although the larger pack of Crediton & Paignton kept most of the game in mid field. Tavistock failed to exploit the few chances that they were given and found themselves in defence towards the end of the game. There were a few Tavistock injuries towards the end of the game which seemed to unsettle the team. Most notable of these was Paige Mcgechie whose tackling and maul play had been excellent thoughout the game. Robynne Honey had a fantastic game as scrum-half and the pinpoint accuracy from her kicking received huge applause from the sizeable crowd at the game. Together with her great running and hard tackling this culminated in her being made player of the match. Tavistock?s hard tackling was a highlight of the match with Bethan Ayling really setting the standard that the other girls are trying to keep up with. With just a few minutes to go Crediton and Paignton managed a couple of late tries, of which only the last was converted. The larger pack had seemed to be just too big a challenge for the Tavistock team. Nonetheless Tavistock have made huge strides forward in a very short period of time. Girl Power is definitely here to stay. For any other girls interested in playing, or just to give it a go, training takes place at 6pm on Thursday evenings and 10am on Sunday mornings ? both at Tavistock Rugby Club.
