PEOPLE living in Princetown are able to get out and about more using public transport thanks to a new initiative by Devon County Council. A new Fare Car service between Princetown, Tavistock and Yelverton operates during the evenings, when there are currently no bus services, and on Sundays when bus services are limited. The Fare Car runs to fixed arrival and departure times like a bus service. Cars will collect passengers from any address or place in Princetown at various times after 6.30pm every evening and after 10am on Sundays. The fare is £1.50 per single journey. Passengers will be dropped at Bedford Square, the bus station or hospital in Tavistock and at the Roundabout bus lay-by in Yelverton where some journeys will connect with the 83 bus to and from Plymouth. Before using the service, passengers need to join the Fare Car scheme by completing application forms. Bookings have to be made four hours before travel. The scheme is being funded by Devon County Council through the Princetown Partners initiative. It will run for a six month trial and be operated by Bernie Taxi Services. Passenger numbers will be monitored and the scheme will continue to run if sufficient use is made. For further information or an application form, call 01392 383481.
