ENDURANCE riding family Andrew, Jo, Tess and Abby Chisholm from Lydford have had an exceptionally good year. With their three horses and two ponies, they have covered more than 1,200 miles in competitions all over the UK, from Carn Marth in Cornwall to the Cumbrian hills. This successful season culminated in winning a clutchful of trophies at the Endurance GB South West prizegiving dinner. Jo and her 16-year-old pure Arab gelding Grey Medlar won the Anwar Arabians challenge trophy awarded to the overall Arab champion, the Jigsaw Puzzle perpetual trophy and the Yakamin trophy for the South West rider and horse combination achieving the most points accumulated at any rides nationally. Tess, 15, added to the haul with the Young Rider achievement cup, having achieved the highest mileage in the current season, as well as the Hairy Harriet award and the Shiera Shoe with Arab cross pony Scarlet; and 12-year-old Abby and pony Holly won the Junior Rider trophy and the Blue Zephyr Memorial trophy. Their father, Andrew, was also in fine form, coming runner-up in the Peter Hawkey Forage trophy for the rider in their first season of endurance, having decided after more than 25 years of crewing for Jo that if you can?t beat them, join them! Abby and Holly will be in the ring at Equine Fair at Westpoint, Exeter, on Saturday as part of the Endurance Riding demonstration ?The Ultimate Partnership between horse and rider?.
