THE daughter of an elderly Okehampton resident has expressed thanks to the two anonymous people who helped her mother, following a fall.
Dot Matthews, aged 92, lives in Solonhurst Court on Mill Road. On Tuesday January 10, Dot was taking out some rubbish at around 7.30pm when she fell down on the pavement, and could not get to her feet again.
Dot's neighbours failed to hear her call for help, but eventually she was helped to her feet by two young men who passed by.
Sheila Brown, Dot's daughter, said: 'Thank God for those two young men who took the time to carefully help my mother up and make sure she was okay.
'She went to take something out for the bin before Emmerdale started, so I know she must have had the fall shortly before 7.30pm. But we have no idea how long she was lying on the pavement for, as she was quite shaken after they helped her up and she went straight to bed.
'If they hadn't helped her, she could have been there all night. You hear so many bad things in the press about youngsters these days, so to hear about two young men doing something like this is wonderful.
'Our whole family is grateful to them both, whoever they are. Once they had helped, they went on their way so we don't know who they are, but we are keen to thank them.'
