children and adults were at Postbridge recently to take part in Devon Artist Network's first Family Art Project.

Set up with the idea of encouraging families to 'Have a Go at Art' and funded through a grant from Awards for All, the two days of workshops were held at the Dartmoor National Park Authority's Postbridge Visitor Centre.

Working alongside professional Chagford-based artists Yuli Somme and Tian Kalouli, the youngsters and their families tried their hands at felt making, using locally produced fleece to create beautifully designed leaves.

The leaves will be used to decorate a 'tree' designed and made by basket maker Linda Lemieux, which will be used as a signpost to the Devon Open Studios event to be held across the county between September 6 and 21.

Ruth Bint from Chagford, who attended the workshop with three of her children, said: 'Felt making is a lovely thing to do as a family —we all really enjoyed ourselves and we were inspired to do further making at home.'

Kate Wilson, director of Devon Artist Network, who set up the project, said: 'We are delighted that so many families came along to the workshop and had fun making things together.

'We want to encourage the idea that art can be for everyone and holding fun workshops in wonderful locations such as Dartmoor is a great way to do it.'
