THE fascinating world of the smallest creatures in the forest went under the spotlight at a special event held in Lydford recently. The free open day, organised by Glen Bradbury of the Forestry Commission and Jennie Hale of Workshop under the Sky, enabled children and their parents to explore the flora and fauna of Lydford Forest through a series of events including workshops, butterfly walks, painting and drawing exercises, moth trapping and pond dipping. It was the culmination of a week of visits to the forest by community groups and schoolchildren. Jenny Hale?s ?yurt?, a type of Mongolian tent, provided a base camp for the event, which was organised to coincide with National Insect Week. Fantastic drawings and paintings of the wildlife discovered during the day are being collated in a special nature diary, copies of which are being given to schools and groups who have visited the forest during National Insect Week.
