Falmouth Town 2

Tavistock AFC 1

FALMOUTH Town now leap frog above the Lambs in the league table after this very close encounter at Bickland Park.

The visitors deserved to get something out of the game, at least a point if not all three.

The game was hard fought, even though there was not a malicious tackle throughout, the referee booked seven players, five of the home team. Both teams struggled to come to terms with the pitch, which was in poor condition at the start and cut up even more as the game progressed.

The opening ten minutes was evenly contested, with much of the play taking place in the middle of the park. In the 12th minute Matt Drummond put a good pass through to Nigel Thwaites but his shot was well saved by Andy Meeds.

The Lambs immediately went to the other end and should have taken the lead, when Mark Conday broke down the right flank, into the penalty area, and squared the ball back to Krac, but his shot was brilliantly turned over the bar by Chapman.

Thwaites was again unlucky when he saw his snap shot from 10 yards hit the post with Meeds well beaten.

Keeper Jason Chapman came to the home sides rescue when he pulled off two good saves to deny Adam Carter and new boy Mike Landricombe — so the first half remained goalless.

Falmouth took the lead in the 50th minute, when Matt Drummond made a good run down the left and his looping cross to the far post found Thwaites who stabbed the ball home from two yards.

The Lambs responded well and really took the game to Falmouth, and after several near misses levelled the scores in the 71st minute when following a corner Mike Landricombe shot home from close in.

The visitors then shot themselves in the foot by conceding a second goal a minute later, when Jimmy Alexander's corner found Tom Smith at the far post to bundle the ball over the line.

It was the Lambs who then pushed forward and the home defence was put under tremendous pressure but with resolute defending, by getting everyone behind the ball, and some good goal keeping by Chapman Falmouth held out to take all three points.

This was another set back in the Lambs campaign, they really did deserve at least a point, as over the 90 minutes they played some really good football on a very poor playing surface.
