AN event that combines food and fairground attractions will be open to the public in May, to provide a platform for local food producers while raising money for Children's Hospice South West.
Eat the Devon Way is a new food show being organised by passionate food producers from Yarty Valley, Hi-T's Fudge and Langage Farm, along with Children's Hospice South West, Lewtrenchard Manor, The Arundell Arms and The Harris Arms.
The event, being held at Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre in Lifton, will be giving all profits to Children's Hospice South West's Precious Lives Appeal.
One of the organisers of Eat the Devon Way Tina Allwork, from Hi-T's Fudge, said: 'After attending many shows across the country we felt that it was time to do something different.
'The aim is to organise a different food event from the norm.
'Producers usually have to pay a fortune to be at food shows and they don't break even.
'We're hoping this event could turn things round for small producers — that's who we're doing this for.
'We have tried to keep costs down for both producers and visitors as we are not out to make a profit, our time is being given free of charge.
'This should enable us to raise funds for Children's Hospice South West as well as providing a fair profit for local food producers.'
The organisers hope to fill more than 90 stalls with a large variety of produce and hope the event will be a fun bank holiday weekend outing with music, festivities and activities for all the family.
Eat the Devon Way will take place on May 29 and 30.
There will be an entrance fee of £2 per adult for the day to include the food event and admission to the fairground centre.
