A RECORD sum of money was raised at the Tavistock Rotary Club's bookstall, tombola and 'Guess the Weight of the Goose' competition at Tavistock's Goose Fair last week.
Just over £1,200 was raised by the three events — the highest figure ever achieved by the club at the fair — with more than 700 guesses being registered for the goose competition.
The prize was won by James Parker from Kingsbridge, whose guess at 12 pounds and six ounces came closest and was within two ounces of the actual weight of the goose.
Julia Hurle, Rotarian in charge of fundraising, said: 'The public has again been very supportive and the club is proud of its record of helping local causes.
'Some of this money will go towards our president's chosen charity this year, which is Tavistock Area Support Services.'
Julia said the donation would greatly assist with the funding of TASS's Tavimobility scheme, which allowed people with limited mobility to use manual and powered wheelchairs and electric powered scooters to access local shops and use town centre leisure facilities.
