Amity Cornwall Women's league division two
Callington Town FC Ladies 1
Charlestown Ladies 4
CALLINGTON'S recent run of form came to an end in a game in which they rued a number of missed opportunities.
The home side started brightly, applying good early pressure and within the first 10 minutes had the Charlestown keeper making saves from both Kate Bourn and Sam May.
However it was the away side that scored the first goal, when an ill-fated attempt to play the offside trap by the home defence resulted in the ball running through to Linden Reynolds who fired a great shot into the far corner from 20 yards.
It only took another five minutes before Reynolds grabbed her second.
Callington pressed hard and they nearly managed a goal on the half hour mark when Kate Bourn's solo run from the right hand side ended in an excellent effort which was tipped over by the Charlestown keeper, Abbie Pearce.
Just before half time, Callington saw another effort go agonisingly close, when Kate Lewis headed a Candy Caplin cross a foot wide of the post.
The second half saw the home side start strongly and within five minutes they had the away keeper bravely scrambling for the ball when a number of Callington shots ricocheted off the legs of the Charlestown defenders in the six yard box.
The third goal came when Callington were undone by a Charlestown break, when Sarah Hawkin chased down a ball and poked it past the home keeper, despite the efforts of Callington defender Marie Wilson.
The home side were given a lifeline when a pinpoint Katy Sheffield free kick found striker Sam May who headed home from 10 yards.
Charlestown put the game to bed when Charity Ternouth drove the ball in from six yards to round off the scoring and earn the away side all three points.
The game saw good performances from Charlestown keeper, Abbie Pearce and Callington winger Kate Lewis.
