SIDE Saddle Association area 16 of Devon and Cornwall held their summer show at Heathfield House on Sunday, July 20.

Four riders from the Okehampton area competed and brought home plenty of rosettes between them.

Ten-year-old Harriet van Houben was riding in her first side saddle competition. She rode Rain Man, formerly the ride of owner Rowan Duke. Harriet excelled herself by being placed fourth in the novice equitation and going on to win the costume concours d'elegance.

Rowan Duke, after an absence of five years from side saddle competition, made an impressive comeback with wins in the concours d'elegance and ridden hunter classes. She rode Volund's Viking Warrior, who has only been introduced to the art this year. The pair made an eyecatching combination and Rowan is looking forward to future competitions with him.

Sandra Higgins on her ex-racehorse Baker's Lamb came second in the riding horse class and third in the open equitation. She also came fifth in the ridden hunter and sixth in the best riding club type class.

Jane Gordon  on her ex-racehorse, Polish Paddy, came second in the hack class, third in the novice equitation and fifth in the riding club-type horse class.
