Crediton U15s 0
Tavistock U15s 29
THIS was Tavistock U15s first game for seven weeks as a result of the weather.
They dominated from the start causing Crediton to make mistakes. The forwards dominated set play providing a good platform for the backs to work their magic.
A loop move in midfield put Joel Smith in to open the scoring with a conversion by Sam Smeardon.
Crediton's opportunities to play themselves back into the game were limited by ferocious tackling by George Scotts and Ross Tregidgo. Tavistock added a second try when Tregidgo broke from the ruck on the blind side to feed a pass to Daniel Boreham who scored the first of his three tries.
The first half finished soon after a ball was chipped through by Tom Lake and gathered by Boreham to add to the score.
Following half-time Tavistock were down to 14 players when Ashley Eslick was forced to depart through injury.
Tavistock started the second half well but squandered two opportunities to add tries.
Crediton fought back but from a breakout from the 22m line by Boreham the ball was worked across the backs to Joel Smith who drew the opposition and fed it inside for a try by Haig Gorman. Despite being one man down Tavistock continued to pile on the pressure to add to the scoreline.
This week Tavistock are at home to Plymstock which should prove to be a good warm-up game before their quarter-final Knockout Cup game the following week.
Crediton RFC U14s 33
Tavistock RFC U14s 5
THE muddy, sloping pitch dictated what sort of game it was going to be, although both sides showed great skill in controlling the ball in such conditions.
The no-show of two key players put Tavistock under pressure with only14 men before the game started but it did not diminish the enthusiasm of those who played.
The home side were restricted to three tries downhill before half-time leaving Tavistock with an achievable goal of scoring at least four tries to win. Although only one was scored while Crediton scored two more,
Tavistock gave the home side plenty to worry about in the second half.
The try came from a well executed move from a set scrum when Sam Morton at number 8 drove though midfield to deliver a perfect pass for Rory Dyer to crash over.
Joe Saunders, back from injury, tackled well and chased everything.
Phil Piper played his best game to date from the second row while Sam Lawson demonstrated excellent tackling and rucking techniques from the unusual position of flanker.
Dave Goodspeed, guesting in the centre, looked lively all game. Hooker William Branfield won several strikes against the head as well as enjoying a good all round game.
The pick of the backs was Kyle Langdon with another good display of catching, kicking tackling and running.
This Sunday away to Brixham.
