AMID the excitement and sparkle of the Christmas Tree Festival in Tavistock parish church, this coming Sunday will see a beautiful reflective start to the Christmas period.

The choir of St Eustachius' will lead an Advent carol service by candlelight, with readings and favourite carols of the season, including 'Gabriel's Message' and an arrangement of 'This Is the Truth Sent from Above' by the British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams.

The priest-in-charge of Tavistock, the Rev Michael Brierley, said: 'For some people, this service, beginning as it does the countdown to Christmas, is the favourite service of the whole year.

'The Christmas trees lit up around us as we sing and reflect together, makes it extra special.'

'Following the service, mulled wine and mince-pies will be served in the church by the Friends of St Eustachius'.

The service starts at 6 pm, and all are warmly invited to attend.
