Exmouth Town Res 3

Northlew 2

EXMOUTH Town of the Screwfix Direct League provided the fantastic setting for football on a sunny day.

For the second week running Northlew raced into a two-goal lead. The first was a fantastic solo effort from Sam Lillicrap when he ran through the entire Exmouth defence from the halfway line.

The second was a super strike from Neil Arthurs when the referee gave a free kick just outside the box — Exmouth did not know what hit them. Their only response was to take the aerial route to their 6ft 9in tall striker.

In the second half the home side stepped up a gear. Northlew's midfield trio of Page, Squire and Dredge never stopped running, making countless crucial tackles and desperately trying to support the forwards.

Exmouth's revival began with a goal from a corner after a scramble found the far post unattended and the ball rolled into the net. The second followed from a penalty after a Steve Squire foul in the box.

That seemed to trigger Northlew into attack mode again. With the game flowing from end to end Exmouth scored the winner when a cross was headed into the corner of the net.

Northlew were disappointed with the result but can take heart from a good performance.

Man of the match: Steve Squire.

Next match away to league leaders Winkleigh.
