A NEW education ranger has been appointed by the Endsleigh Charitable Trust, to set up a visitors' centre, providing information on the natural history and heritage of the country estate.

Paula Jones has a number of exciting educational programmes planned to allow West Devon schools and colleges to experience the mix of history and nature at the estate.

The country estate of Endsleigh near Milton Abbot harbours plants and trees from all over the world, bought together cleverly by landscape designer Humphry Repton and architect Sir Jeffry Wyatville.

The sixth Duke of Bedford originally commissioned the building of the house and gardens with the work implemented in the early part of the 19th century. The Duke's wife, Georgina, was instrumental in the selection of the site and part of the gardens are named after her.

The Heritage Lottery Fund has supported recent work to restore the fine characteristics of the estate and has improved access for visitors.

The 'Friends of Endsleigh' have also provided funds, to carry out restoration work on the property.

Endsleigh can be visited year-round from 11am to 5pm.

Information on upcoming events and arranging visits for community groups and schools can be obtained by calling Paula Jones, education ranger, on 01822 870 633.
