IN Division 1 the match of the week saw table topping Okehampton A at home to Tavistock A.
Until now Okehampton A had not lost a game in their perfect start to the season.
A determined Tavistock A team tore into the Okehampton A team and raced into a 7-0 lead.
The score did not reflect the closeness of the games with Tony Howick just losing out to Peter Hicks in the fifth set 7-11, 11-13, 12-10, 11-5, 10-12. John Squire was also just beaten in the fifth by Fred Phillips 11-9, 11-8, 10-12, 2-11, 8-11. Tony also lost to Fred in the fifth 0-11, 11-5, 11-9, 8-11, 11-13.
John Squire then beat Roger Bowkett to prevent a possible whitewash and Barry Denner followed suit beating Peter Hicks to bring the match back to 2-7.
Tavistock A took the doubles to secure a 2-8 win on the night which takes Tavistock up to fourth place in the table with Okehampton A remaining top.

Academy A had a good win away at newly promoted Anchorage B and ran out 1-9 winners.
Anchorage B players Dave Wilson and John Watson both lost two of their matches in the fifth set.
Dave was narrowly beaten by Ben Hill 7-11, 13-11, 3-11, 11-8, 13-15. John Watson secured Anchorage B's first win of the season with a commendable win over Academy A player Tom Pengelly 12-10, 11-3, 9-11, 11-4. Dave and John lost a close doubles to Ben Hill and Tom Pearce 9-11, 10-12, 12-14.
Anchorage B scores were John Watson (1), Dave Wilson (0), Roger Gilbert (0).
Academy A scores were Tom Pengelly (2), Tom Pearce (3), Ben Hill (3).
Bridestowe moved into second place following a 3-7 win away at Anchorage A.
Martin Fowler narrowly lost the first game to Mark Fogerty 11-13, 11-5, 10-12, 11-9, 7-11, but Ottilia Pochat playing her first match of the season secured a good win against Mark in four sets 6-11, 13-11, 11-7, 11-4.
Martin and Ottilia paired up for the final doubles and did well to beat Mark Fogerty and Mark Tancock 11-6, 11-9, 10-12, 11-5.
Anchorage A scores were Martin Fowler (1), Bob Vella (0), Ottilia Pochat (1).
Bridestowe scores were Mark Fogerty (2), Mark Tancock (3), Francis Griffiths (2).
The last division one match saw a clash between The Young Ones and The J Team.
The J Team player Naomi Jackson was too strong on the night and secured a fine maximum but this failed to prevent The Young Ones taking a 6-3 lead.
Nick Jackson came on to join Naomi in the last doubles against George and Edward Haskell and in a closely fought and competitive game Nick and Naomi finally won through in five sets 7-11, 11-5, 11-4, 7-11, 8-11 to give the The Young Ones a 6-4 victory.

The J Team scores were Naomi Jackson (3), Frank Cockburn (0), Sarah Jackson (0).
There were no matches in division two this week but one late result from last week saw Moretonhampstead lose to Milton Abbot 3-7.
Brian Skilton was playing his first match for several years for Moretonhampstead and took Milton Abbot's Michael Blatchford all the way just losing in five sets 7-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 10-12.
Overall, Milton Abbot proved too strong on the night.
