A GROUP of 30 children from Walkhampton Primary School returned last Saturday from what has become an annual visit to Mathieu in Normandy ? Burrator?s twin village.

The visits started in 1976 and this year ten adults accompanied the children ? who were mainly from Years 4-6.

School head Jim Knight said it had been a very exciting week, as it had been the build-up to the D-Day commemorations.

They visited Pegasus Bridge and the Battle of Normandy memorial museum in Bayeux, but were unable to get to Arromanche as it was blocked off for the planned events.

The children bought picnic food in the markets, speaking French, and visited some French families in their houses in the evening. On one evening there was a barbecue with 120 people.
