DRY but windy weather prevailed for the silver and bronze open at Tavistock Golf Club where some excellent scores were made.  In the silver division, Fran Horton had a nett 73 on countback from Wendy Wroe. Third was Bridget Luckham with a nett 74 on countback from Jane Wright (Staddon Heights); fifth Elaine Cooper nett 74 on countback from Bernice Thompson (Staddon Heights).  Excellent scores were made in the bronze division with Wendy George coming in with an incredible nett 63.  Second, Ruth Myott, nett 67: third, Lyn Jones, nett 68; fourth, Patty Congo, nett 72;  fifth, Ann Mayne (RND), nett 75 on countback from Jane Wayne (Bigbury).  Front 9 silver: 1, Lesley Moore, nett 37; 2,  Louisa McCartney (Lanhydrock), nett 34.  Front 9 bronze: 1, Margaret Foster, nett 36; 2, Lyn Swift, 34 nett. The Molly Muirhead Salvers for the best scratch silver and scratch bronze gross scores were awarded to Bev Ruth (best scratch silver) with a gross 83 and Ruth Myott (best bronze scratch) with a gross 91.  Ruth also won the silver bowl (for handicaps 24 and under) with nett 67.  The lady captain's prizes were won by Fran Horton, nett 73 (silver division), and Wendy George nett 63 (bronze division).  The Rickeard Bowl, open to players who have won LGU medals, extra medals or stablefords in the preceding year, was played in conjunction with the June Medal. Winner of the silver division was Sybil Coles with nett 69. In the bronze division, Peggy Burge had nett 71, and runner-up was Lyn Jones. Lyn was also in the running for winning the Rickeard Bowl but was beaten on countback on the back six by Shirley Trevena with nett 72. The men were not so lucky with the weather for their midweek medal. Nevertheless, a small field braved the elements. Shaun Kiely won division 1 with nett 76 on countback from John Harding. Steve Thackham (division 2) came in with nett 80. Results were close in the men's four ball better ball open. George Gawman and Roger Rich were clear leaders with 44 points. Barry Luxton and Andy Weir were second on countback from Jamie Mills and Tony O'Neill with 42 points; Mark Ingram and Tony Ingram had 41 points on countback from David Cox and James Samson and Rich Potts and Nick Mier.
