Ordulph v Tavistock Thirds ORDULPH got back to their winning ways on Saturday against a young Tavistock third team, this despite missing three of their main strike bowlers. Tavistock chose to bat first and made a steady start with Power (28) leading the way. With bowlers missing, Ordulph?s job was made harder with Folley struggling to find his line and length, although Smith from the school end was turning in a tight performance to compensate. Eventually, the breakthrough came for Ordulph with Tavistock?s skipper Anderson falling to Folley caught by Rotton, and Power falling victim to Smith?s tight line and length from the other end. Tavistock?s momentum was continuing with a couple of breezy knocks from Andrew and Hutchins (16) to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Smith finished off his spell of 12 overs straight through with a further couple of wickets to keep Ordulph on top. But Tavistock were not giving up, as veteran Rich again stepped up the run rate with a useful knock of 27. He eventually fell to spinner Rotton with a good catch from Evans, and Hutchins to the guile of Doc Finnigan. With further good catches from De Caux and Mitchell, a sharp stumping from Baskerville, and little over 100 on the board for Tavistock, Ordulph again looked to be getting on top. Stand-in bowler Rogan Sutton was now called up for front line duty and performed admirably with a couple of nice wickets which were achieved economically. A wag of the Tavistock tail pushed the Tavistock score on to respectability with an excellent 23 not out from young McGahey and a crisp 14 from Bray. With the 40 overs up, Tavistock posted 155 for 9 for Ordulph to chase. What was to follow was an Ordulph record breaking opening stand of 149 between in form Evans, with superb support from Doc Finnigan. Evans was in a belligerent mood and took the attack to the bowlers right from the outset. Anything not on the spot was despatched with contempt. Several bowling changes from Tavistock were made in an attempt to break the partnership but all were met with the same robust treatment from Evans. Eventually, Evans? outstanding innings was brought to an end, lbw to young Stephens, agonisingly nine runs short of his ton. Doc Finnigan (46) now supported by Rogan Sutton carried his bat and took Ordulph over the line with more than 11 overs to spare. The young Tavistock bowlers though can be proud of their effort with all giving 100 per cent with a never say die attitude. This week Ordulph entertain high riding Lewdown at Kelly College.
