TAVISTOCK mayor Caroline Keane is standing down from the town council in order to focus on local projects close to her heart. Cllr Keane, who has been mayor for one year, revealed the news at the annual town meeting last Tuesday in the town hall. Although she has enjoyed her time as mayor, Cllr Keane felt it was time to focus on the projects she is passionate about, including the sensory garden project and climate change issues. Cllr Keane said: 'My time as mayor has had its moments of frustration, but I have enjoyed being mayor of Tavistock. 'I would like to say a big thank you to the councillors for all their dedicated time and effort in the running of the council. I have had a wonderful time. 'I am not standing again as I would like to focus on things I am passionate about. I want to focus on the garden project, as I am hoping to carry it forward, and climate change issues — in line with my art and ecology MA course which I am doing at Dartington over the next two years. 'I look forward to seeing a more vibrant town council, and the councillors who stay on will be more successful in the next year.' During the meeting Cllr Keane reported on the work achieved throughout the year, such as the fact that the town council is one of only 400 Quality Councils. She hoped people were happy with the successful replacement of the iron bridge over the Tavy, and trusted the public was now satisfied with the replacement of the Guildhall Square toilets.
