DJM Mayflower League Under 11

Tavistock Thistles . . . . . . . . . . . 4

Elm United . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2

THIS was an even match between two strong teams and it lived up to its billing as an exciting game from the kick-off.

Thistles starting line up of goalkeeper Phillip Snell and defenders Ian Harvey, Jack Quinn, Niall Murphy and Cadan Lowther were kept busy by a strong Elm attack.

After further pressure, Elm opened the scoring with an excellent goal.

This steadied Thistles who hit back just before half time with a well worked goal by Taylor MacCormack from a through ball from Ben Langton.

The midfield of Ross Seward, Joshua Leeson and Chris Hull, playing in his first match this season, kept things all square until the half time break.

The second half started with an almost immediate goal from Thistles following an excellent through ball from Ben Pridham to Langton.

There then followed two substitutions with Matt Jefferies and Rhys Dunford coming on for Seward and Hull.

This strengthened the home team, who scored their third goal; Langton's second of the match, following good play by Dunford.

Elm managed to hit back with their second goal, setting up the final ten minutes for some taut play as Thistles tried to keep hold of their lead. A late substitution of Leeson for James Northey gave some much-needed fresh energy to a team under considerable attack.

This all out attack from Elm was, ultimately, their downfall as Langton broke through to complete his hat trick with an individual effort.

The match was superb entertainment and was played in fine spirit by both teams, in front of a large audience of supporters, both home and away.

Man of the match Ben Langton.

Next week away to Efford Youth.
