Tamar League A division

Ordulph v Yelverton

MASTERING a good opening spell of bowling from the safe pair of Roe and O Hanlon, Ordulph's Credicott and Melhuish batted positively and effectively moving the score along nicely.

Melhuish eventually fell to Oliver by an outstanding catch from Spear but not before posting 33. With Whitfield now supporting Credicott at the crease, runs continued to flow, even when Whitfield (22) fell, the good support work was continued by Smith (26no). Still there at the end, unbeaten, carrying his bat for 40 overs, was Credicott, having posted his first century this season and what a deserved century it was. Ordulph went to tea with 212 for 4 on the board.

Yelverton openers Janardyn and Johns progressed to nearly 50 in the first ten overs.

A bowling change bringing Rushton and Folley to the attack put the brakes on the Yelverton runs spree but even with the loss of Janardyn (24) to Folley, opener Johns was still there putting the bad ball away. He was well supported by Garland (36). Johns (84) before Garland eventually fell to Rushton.

The game was still in the balance and Yelverton needed five in the last over. With the last over falling to Smith he kept a cool head, pitched the ball up and pressured Yelverton into making mistakes which resulted in two run outs but more importantly to Ordulph, only three runs off the over. Winning by two runs Ordulph would be the first to admit that Yelverton for their brave efforts deserved at least a share of the spoils.

l It could possibly also be the last Ordulph league game with a decision on whether to field a league side next year being discussed. Ordulph captain Folley would like to thank the numerous players that have supported the team over the years, and to Kelly College for the use of their wonderful ground and especially to The Ordulph Arms landlord Andy Coad for his unstinting support.
