MOTORISTS are being invited to do their bit to support Devon Car Free Day on September 22 — even if they have no option but to drive for their commute.

Carsharedevon.com is asking car drivers to register on its website in a bid to reduce the number of vehicles on the road on that day.

Those who sign up between September 8-22 may find one or more people to share their journey with and they will also be entered into a free draw to win £100 worth of vouchers of their choice. The website is free for anyone to join, and the advanced matching software provides members with details of others who are travelling in the same direction.

Devon County Council member Margaret Rogers, said: 'It may not be possible for everyone to go without their car on September 22 so car sharing is another option where people can at least reduce the number of cars on our roads.'
