AS part of Dementia Awareness Week, a 'Singing for the Brain' session will be open to everyone on Friday, May 23 at the Recreational Hall in Yelverton. Everyone is welcome to the session, which runs from 1.30pm to 4pm. There will also be live music, information on dementia, crafts, refreshments and information on how to become a 'Dementia Friend'. The session will aim to demonstrate how people can live well with dementia in the local community. Devon Dementia support workers will be available to talk about concerns, provide help, and can give information and details on local support. Singing for the Brain is a group activity which has been carefully designed for all people with memory difficulties and their carers, to receive the many health benefits that are woven into the fun of singing. The sessions are all led by a trained singing leader and supported by volunteers. Yelverton Singing for the Brain leader Gillian Webster said: 'It is very rewarding to see faces light up when the words of songs are recalled and then sung heartily. The participants appreciate the regular activity that is enjoyable and offers the chance to be sociable in a supportive environment.'
