RESIDENTS in West Devon opened their doors to the public to show off their energy-saving modifications in Transition Tavistock's Energy Savers at Home weekend.

Over the weekend 15 homes were open across the area and received more than 120 visitors.

Pete and Helen Silcock are pictured above right, outside their house Rumour, in Bere Ferrers, explaining to visitors how they self-built their home over the last few years.

There are many innovative energy saving ideas built into the home — some very simple and some more technical.

Pete and Helen are hoping that, with the help of construction for solar gain, ventilation and heat recovery, solar generation and water storage systems, their ongoing heating costs will be nil.
