A CAR endurance rally will be following a route across Dartmoor from Newton Abbot to Plymouth via Okehampton next weekend. Organised by South Hams Motor Club, the event covers some 500 miles through the most beautiful regions of Devon and Cornwall from March 7 to 9, with the Dartmoor section being on March 7. After setting out from Newton Abbot at midday on the Friday, the rally will visit forests on Dartmoor at Bellever and Fernworthy, and then on to Okehampton military camp before making its way back to Fernworthy and Bellever for a second run during the afternoon/evening. These three competitive sections are held on private land, but Bellever is considered the most suitable for spectators. Entry secretary Andrew Bulpin stressed that anyone who lived along the course of the route had been advised of the rally, which was not competitive while on normal roads. Nearly 80 competitors have entered to date from all over the UK, including several from Devon. A route map and timings will be available on the club's website http://www.shmc.co.uk">www.shmc.co.uk from March 1.
