THE committee which runs the popular Tavistock Country Show this week announced there will be no more shows organised for the foreseeable future.
The show has been running for 17 years ? a combination of factors is blamed for the cancellation of the annual event near Brentor.
Chairman and show organiser Graham Carter said: ?Unfortunately, due to the cancellation of the 2001 show because of foot and mouth, the postponement of this year?s show until September and the poor weather that discouraged a large crowd, has meant the show is no longer financially viable.?
The show has been running since 1986, attracting crowds of up to 6,000 people.
Mr Carter said it has raised thousands of pounds for local charities and causes during this time.
He said: ?The committee would like to thank all the traders, helpers and public who have supported the show over the years, and hopes that one year, Tavistock Country Show will rise again.
?We have the facilities, but we haven?t got the financial backing and until that?s in place, we can?t go forward.?
