Devon 2 League North Tawton 17 Plympton Victoria 10 FROM the kick off Plympton put the home side under pressure and for the first part of the match they were defending their line from several attacks. Tawton forced their way back upfield and penetrated into the opposition half, following a neat pick up by Tawton?s Neil Davis who fed to second row Adam Hooper. Twenty-five minutes into the match a dangerous break through the centre by Plympton?s full back was stopped by a good tackle from Phil Wale. This was followed by good clearance work from Ewen and a chip upfield by scrum half Martin Friggins which gave Tawton a lineout close to the visitor?s line. A favoured front of the line move between hooker Davis and prop Danny Wonnacott was driven out into touch. The pressure was maintained, and a quick penalty move by Ewens caused a pile up close to Plympton?s line. Friggins fed a quick ball to the blind side wing where flanker and captain Kevin Avery was waiting to drive through for the first score of the match. The conversion from close to the touch line was well taken by Ross Lawrence Plympton came straight back and forced Tawton back to their five-metre area. At the back of a ruck a clearance attempt from his own try line by Paul Fewings was charged down by the outstretched hands of Plympton prop Nigel Holgate and their first try was scored. The conversion was missed. An injury to Kevin Avery brought on Andy Pyle as replacement. Almost halfway through the second period, a quick penalty move by Tawton close to the Plympton line was well executed with a neat pass out to Charlie Ewen. With a driving run he forced his way through the tackles to score a good try; an equally good conversion by Lawrence moved Tawton to 14 - 5 ahead. North Tawton made their second replacement with Andy Poole coming on to replace Ewen, and soon after that Pyle was back on permanently to replace Richard Nye. The home side was under pressure and the visitors broke through the defence with a good move down the right hand touchline. Adam Fell was the man to touch down as he was tackled by Tawton?s Dell Matravers. The collision resulted in a shoulder injury which forced Fell to leave the field, and a missed conversion was no consolation. In the final stages, a penalty to Tawton from 22 metres out was converted immaculately by Lawrence to take Tawton to 17-10.
