TAVISTOCK Young Farmers' Club celebrated the close of another successful year with its annual harvest supper at Gulworthy Village Hall.

The evening marked the end of an era as the club bade farewell to its long-standing club president, Russell Woolcock MBE, who decided to stand down at the end of the year, after 35 years.

More than 80 people attended the special harvest supper, including members, parents and supporters of the club. An entertaining account of the year was given by the outgoing chairman George Steer, before presenting Mr Woolcock with a painting on behalf of the club.

The annual meeting was held in mid October with Sabrina Doidge elected as chair alongside Emma Cole and Hannah Cole, who will be acting as secretary and treasurer. The club meets regularly and takes part in sporting activities, public speaking, social evenings and local visits.

At its recent meeting two cheques of a £1,000 each were presented to the club's chosen charities for the previous year, which was Devon Air Ambulance and ABF The Soldiers Charity.

The club's Christmas Bingo is being held tonight (Thursday) at Milton Abbot Village Hall, eyes down for 7.30pm.
