DORNEY Lake at Eton was the venue for the Suso Human Race Junior Triathlon.

A very hot Sunday saw Emily Attfield, the 12 year-old Tavistock triathlete compete in the Tristar 3 high performance race, which served as a South West qualifier for the inter regional championships to be held in Tyne and Wear the first weekend in September.

A 400m open water swim, a 10km cycle and 2.4km run had the 27 female athletes strung out along the race route in what will be the Olympic rowing venue in 2012.  Emily finished in a superb fourth place overall and was the first girl in her age group.

This result assures her of overall victory in the South West Series and she will represent the South West at the above mentioned IRC race.

A 450 mile round trip paid off for Tavistock triathlete Emily Attfield with two first places on consecutive days.

Emily, a member of Tavistock Athletic Club, Okehampton Cycling Club and Team Certini, competed in the Cardiff junior Triathlon at the Maindy Velodrome and a fast swim and cycle saw her in second place at the start of the 2.4km run.  She took the lead with 500 metres to go to win in a time of 29.51 sec.

The following day the venue was Lutterworth in Leicester for the Junior Flashman Triathlon.  Stiff competition saw Emily in fourth place after the 300 metre swim but an excellent transition moved her into second place.

An exciting six kilometre cycle saw her overtaken by two athletes but by the end of this element she had pulled back to third place.

An outstanding run enabled her to overtake the two leading competitors and go on to win the race by 19 seconds.

The following week Emily also won the Bude Junior Triathlon.
