After five events in the British triathlon South West Series Zest athletes are now half way through their season and are accumulating some great results. Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire held a triathlon on Saturday at which Zest were well represented. In the Tristar one age nine and 10 year olds Emily Ackford took first place completing the 140 metre swim, 2000m cycle and 1200m run in an overall time of 17mins 57secs with Emily Attfield doing extremely well in her first ever triathlon finishing in third in a time of 20mins 34secs. Jordan Channon was first in the boys' event in a time of 14.58 with Matt Green second in 17.14. Tristar two distances then increased to a 200m swim, 4000m cycle and 1800m run which Beth Merriott completed in 36mins. Zest then had Tom Green, Will Carter (pictured above on the run section) and Rhys Merriott racing in the Tristar three, for ages 13-14. They were up against strong competition and all started with a fast 300m swim followed by a quick transition into their trainers and onto their bikes to start the cycle circuit. An excellent ride by Rhys saw him gain on Will and Tom who then pulled away in the 2400m run with Tom finishing in eighth (35.46mins), Will in 10th (36.31mins) and Rhys in 13th (38.26mins). All the Zest athletes did extremely well in this highly competitive race and are looking forward to continuing their excellent season.
