EIGHT members of Tavistock Athletic Club were among the 2,000-plus who took part in this year's Plymouth Half-Marathon.

The course reverted to the usual one through Saltram Park with its stiff hill, but this did not seem to effect times too much with a personal best being recorded by Roger Hewitt in 1 hour 45 minutes.

Unlike the weather in Tavistock, it stayed dry until near the end of the run, and although it was a bit windy, conditions were cool and perfect for most.

First club members home in joint 97th were Adam Musgrave, making his half-marathon debut, and his father, Robin, who paced him. They were given the same time of 1 hour 25 minutes, which must make them the fastest father and son team in the west !

Next were half-marathon regulars Mike Lewis in 1.35, Chris Halliday in 1.39, Keith Bowles in 1.40 with Pete Bazley joining Roger on 1.45.

Last Tavistock man home was Trevor Williams in 1.48 only just outside his pb, which, given the course, was an excellent run.

All the runners finished in the top half of the 2,067 finishers, with Robin and Mike both sixth in their age groups, further good performances considering the size and quality of the field.
