East Cornwall League. Division One Bude Town 4 Tavistock Seconds 4 THE grim, blustery and cold conditions in Bude were reflected in this somewhat disjointed and largely unattractive match. Neither team seemed able to settle into a consistent rhythm during the first half and it was only after 30 minutes of scrappy football that things began to pick up,when Tavistock conceded a penalty that gave Bude a 1-0 lead. The visitors responded almost immediately when a clearance off the line rebounded into the path of Chris Faulkner who tapped the ball in from close range. Ten minutes later Bude again took the lead when a fine cross from the left was met by the Bude striker who gave the keeper little chance. Much to Tavistock's credit they replied within less than a minute. A good mid-field run from Tommy Rawlinson opened up the Bude defence and Kevin Nicholson finished the move with a 30 yard volley. The second half saw some better football. Tavistock had the wind behind them and began to take the game to Bude but a fine solo effort from the home side's striker, who skipped around the defender and neatly placed the ball into the net, put them 3-2 up. Tavistock struggled hard to get back in the game but seemed to lack the necessary penetration, until a free kick on the edge of the box was fumbled by the Bude keeper and smartly bundled over the line by Pete Gibson. Two minutes later, for the first time in the game, the visitors managed to edge in front when a defensive mix up gave John Hajiyianni the opportunity to place the ball into the net from short range. All Tavistock needed to do at this point was to go into defence mode and hang on to their advantage for five minutes or so to secure the three points, but inevitably Bude came straight back. Tavistock's inability to clear a loose ball in the area was punished and the three points melted away.
