MARCH has been a favourable month for Okehampton Golf Club ladies, with the only wet day being the qualifying Par competition held on the 8th.

Only eight ladies braved the conditions, with Doris Jewell coming in the winner after a closely fought battle with three ladies coming in with the same score of +1.

Marcia Holwill came second after a countback over the back 9, and Marcia Jones came third after a countback over the back 6. What close fought competition!

The stableford competition held on the 15th had a better turnout, with 23 ladies taking part. This must be one of the highest entries for a long time.

The winner was Cherry James with 37 points, second was Lyn Atkinson with 36, and third was Amanda Clifford with 34, losing on the back 9 also with 34 was Penny Deakin.

On the following Wednesday, a four ball better ball was played. The weather was beautiful, and the scores were good.

Amanda Clifford and Lyn Atkinson won with a good score of 39 points, second were Margaret Down and Marcia Jones with 38 points, and third were Marcia Holwill and Eileen Harrison with 37 points.

In fourth place, also with 37 but losing on the back 9 were Maureen Willcocks (lady captain) and Jenni Hutchinson.

On this occasion 24 ladies played in the competition, so this small ladies' section would seem to be growing in numbers.
