EAST Cornwall youngster Edward Tait had a once in a lifetime international date last week — he travelled all the way to Aberdeen to be a player escort in Scotland's friendly football fixture against Estonia.
Sports mad Edward, 11, from Albaston, plays for Callington Colts football team and Tavistock Rugby Club as well as Delaware School football and tag rugby team. He was delighted to find out he had been chosen for the role: 'I was so nervous when I walked out of the tunnel with Chris Burke Scottish striker, but we had a little chat and that made me feel better.
'It was well worth the 32-hour 1,234-mile round trip for the experience and I would do it again tomorrow — but I'm not sure my dad would!'
As a bonus, Edward's father, Darren, and friend, James Roissetter, were staying in the same hotel as the Estonia squad and although the Baltic side were defeated in the match they were happy to sign autographs for the boys.
Edward was chosen as a player escort in a competition through the FA and McDonald's Kick Start programme.
The match at Aberdeen's Pittodrie Stadium was the first in charge of Scotland for new manager Gordon Strachan. His side won 1-0 thanks to a goal by Celtic player Charlie Mulgrew, his first for Scotland.
