A SWATHE of poppies are adorning the reception area at Okehampton Primary School, made to remember the fallen by pupils at the school.
The Remembrance Day project was the brainchild of teachers Luna Redhead, Jasmine Vallance and Rebecca Ambrose.
Twenty-four children from Years 5 and 6 made 200 clay poppies, which were then painted by the children in Years 3 and 4.
Now on display in reception, they are being sold to raise money for the Okehampton Branch of the Royal British Legion. Poems on the themes of poppies and war written by Year 3 pupils are displayed alongside them.
‘We are hoping we will be able to raise £500 for the Legion,’ said Jasmine. ‘Remembrance Day is really important, and we thought it would be nice to raise money while also making the children more aware of what it is all about. They have really enjoyed it.’
