A LIFTON-born man has raised nearly £3,000 to aid Romanian children by completing a cycle ride from John O'Groats to Land's End.

Ed Rimmell, 24, completed the ride when he reached Land's End on Saturday, September 22.

Ed, who now works as a solicitor in London, took just 11 days to ride the exhausting journey.

On the final leg of 97 miles from Lifton to Lands End, he was accompanied by his 16 year-old sister Freya.

The majority of the money was raised by sponsorship before the ride, with some also collected on the route. The exact amount raised is still being counted and finalised.

Ed has long harboured a personal ambition to ride from John O'Groats to Land's End.

'I have always wanted to try this and by raising money for a Plymouth-run charity Safecare Aid to Romania, a worthy cause, I knew I had to complete the distance.

'Thankfully the English weather was kind and the Scottish weather traditional,' he said.

The charity supports a small home in Romania for children with special needs and the money Ed has raised will help to build a small schoolroom.

The charity have specially adapted the house for the children's needs and employ a local couple who provide parental guidance and love for the previously abandoned children.
