THE traditional Cornish Pasty is being used in Tavistock not only to feed the inner man — but also beef up a good cause.

A percentage of every pasty sold from the Homemade Cake Shop in Duke Street tomorrow will go towards the Green Wellie Appeal, created to help hard-hit farmers and rural businesses.

Darron Blackmore, a partner in Mayflower Bakeries, which owns the shop, is also involved with other retailers in the possibility of taking produce to nearby farmers left isolated on their farms.

'The farming community and those people associated with them spend a lot of money with us,' he said.

'We feel that Tavistock is one of those towns where people are loyal to their local businesses. So if we can do anything to help we will.'

Tomorrow the Homemade Cake Shop will be donating 10p from every pasty sold to the cause.

'We are making a green wellie pasty made which we can ask the best price for — someone might say they'd pay £10. It's an expensive pasty but well worth it for the cause the money would be going to.'

l Stoke Climsland Youth Club, SC2Y are holding a Wellie Wanging Day on the Green at Stoke Climsland on Saturday at 11.30pm.

l Callington Lions will be at the town's Pioneer store tomorrow, Friday aiming to fill Green Welly boots with cash to help the foot and mouth-stricken farmers.
